Winners receive cash awards in Prize Presentation Ceremony

The BEDB’s Land of Opportunity Photography Competition came to a close on Thursday 2 April with the presentation of prizes to 24 winners.

The competition, launched on 2 January 2009, was organised to promote the beauty and uniqueness of Brunei Darussalam as a land of opportunity for its people and all investors, and aimed to showcase the relationship with its people, industry and environment in the pursuit of a dynamic and sustainable economy.

The Judging Process

Preliminary Screening
The BEDB ensured that each of the 853 entries complied with the required specifications stated in the entry form, specifically in terms of pixel size and format.

First Round of Judging
Two judges from the Association of Photographers Brunei Darussalam were invited to vet the photos based on technical capability and photographic quality.

Second Round of Judging
Three BEDB staff and two judges from the Association of Photographers together shortlisted a total of 75 photos for the final round based on their composition, creativity and relevance to their respective categories.

Final Round of Judging
Representatives from Baiduri Bank, Brunei Press and Cityneon Displays and Construction, in their capacity as sponsors and supporters of the competition, together with an independent judge, joined the BEDB in judging the finalists photos based on their effectiveness in conveying the key message. The judges also took into consideration how successfully the contestants communicated the key message through the title of the photo.

A total of 24 prizes were awarded, with eight prizes per category. First, second and third place winners each received trophies as well as $1200, $800 and $500 in cash respectively. A further 5 consolation prizes of $100 each were awarded for each category.
