OPPORTUNITIES IN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM’S HALAL

  • Halal Processing Hub
  • Halal Food Ingredients manufacturing
  • Halal Pharmaceutical Manufacturing (E.g.: Vitamins and Supplements)

WHY BRUNEI DARUSSALAM FOR YOUR HALAL INVESTMENT?

In our ever progressive world, it has become increasingly challenging for Muslims to determine whether the products they consume are religiously acceptable or ‘Halal’. Halal and non-Halal classifications are not only limited to food and beverages but also to other products such as health supplements, pharmaceutical products, personal care and cosmetics products.

As Brunei prides itself on its status as a Malay Islamic Monarchy, the role of Halal products is extremely important. Brunei’s standards for Halal certification is known to be one of the strictest in the world- the credibility of Brunei Halal Certification brings confidence to Muslims worldwide and also guarantees safety and quality assurance to the general consumer market.

BRUNEI DARUSSALAM'S COMMITMENT TO HALAL DEVELOPMENT

The Brunei Government has invested its efforts in the development of the Halal industry through a number of initiatives, including the establishment of the Halal Food Standards, Halal Pharmaceutical Guidelines and the launching of the Brunei Halal Brand.

The Brunei Halal Brand provides an avenue for businesses to penetrate into the Muslim market; consumers can depend in products’ safety and quality produced under Brunei’s Halal brand name.

The Brunei Halal Brand and the establishment of both the Halal Food Standards and Halal Pharmaceutical Guidelines were projects initiated by the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources, with the cooperation of the Brunei Islamic Religious Council, Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Ministry of Health. The Halal Pharmaceutical Guidelines is said to be the first of its kind in the world. Another emerging Halal cluster with a vast market potential is the Halal Personal Care and Cosmetics industry.

Brunei offers a potential location for the development of a Halal processing hub and supporting manufacturing industries, next to the planned port development at Pulau Muara Besar (PMB). The port will be operational by 2012 and this location is especially ideal for export-oriented industries.

Another initiative spearheaded by the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources is the development of the Agro-Technology Park (ATP). Phase 1 includes plans to develop a Halal Science Centre, Research and Development, Food Incubator and Botanical Gardens.
