BEDB CORPORATE CITIZENSHIP PROGRAM (CCP)
Aligned with the BEDB’s mission to provide opportunities for its people and all investors, the Corporate Citizenship Program (CCP) has been established by the BEDB with the objective not only to connect the BEDB and its key stakeholders with the community but also to develop and strengthen mutually beneficial relationships that remain consistent with the goals and objectives of the BEDB.
To date, the BEDB, in collaboration with its key stakeholders, has undertaken a number of CCP initiatives including:
GREENGROWTH INITIATIVE
The GREENGrowth Initiative is a unique collaborative effort between the BEDB and various agencies not only to support global moves towards a cleaner and greener environment but more importantly to contribute to the sustainability of Brunei Darussalam’s ecological system through the conservation and preservation of its biodiversity.
In collaboration with the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Environment, Park & Recreation, the BEDB together with its project partners for the “GREENGrowth Initiative” - Standard Chartered Bank, Butra HeidelbergCement Sdn Bhd, TEE International Ltd, Brunei Methanol Company Sdn Bhd, BAG Networks Sdn Bhd, Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd and TNC Landscaping Sdn Bhd – held a launching ceremony for the planting of 2000 indigenous fruit trees for the 2000 houses project site at Kg Panaga in Kuala Belait on 23rd March 2011. The primary aim of this initiative was to further strengthen local biodiversity by preserving over 14 different types of Brunei’s indigenous fruit trees, some of which are on the verge of extinction.
In addition to the planting of 2000 indigenous fruit trees, the GREENGrowth Initiative will also include a planting program for 200 trees at the common areas of the 2000 houses project site. These 200 trees are donated by the Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd as part of its effort to promote green and sustainable development in the country.
The BEDB has also invited students from various schools to take part in the indigenous fruit tree planting initiative to instill the idea of sustainable development and encourage active participation in safeguarding the natural environment. These include Perdana Wazir Secondary School, Anthony Abell College, Maktab Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah, Jerudong International School, International School Berakas, Sayyidina Ali Secondary School and Chung Ching Middle School.
