The iCentre, Brunei Darussalam’s first ICT incubator, is the first phase of the Business and Technology Park that the BEDB is developing to support local business and technology development.
At the iCentre a number of bright young entrepreneurs are developing innovative ideas helping to bring Made-in-Brunei technology overseas.
Current projects in development at the iCentre include mobile communications content and software, barcode and Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) applications, software development and public portal development.
iCENTRE - YOUR INNOVATION CENTRE
The iCentre is a declaration of Brunei’s commitment to nurturing our potential in business services. As Brunei’s first ICT incubator, it is focused on developing local SMEs in the field of information and communications technology.
iCentre is managed by Singapore’s high tech business incubation specialist KR Consulting, a business unit of National University of Singapore, who brings a wealth of expertise into the design of a tailor made incubation programme for Brunei companies.
Through its incubation programme the iCentre provides small businesses with the entrepreneurship training, mentoring and marketing support they need in order to grow successfully. The iCentre is equipped with fully wired plug-and-play work spaces which can accommodate up to 16 full-time and 5 virtual small companies at one time. It also provides common office facilities including meeting rooms, a boardroom, an auditorium, as well as a cafeteria.
MADE-IN-BRUNEI TECHNOLOGY
Examples of some of the Made-in-Brunei technology being developed at the iCentre include:
V-Track is a GPS vehicle tracking software, which has comprehensive digital maps of Brunei designed to improve customer’s productivity and reduce maintenance cost.
V-Track is being developed by local Bruneian company Mimit e-Technology (MET). MET offers innovative ICT solutions and services and are currently concentrating on GPS applications as their main focus. For more information please visit www.mtech-brunei.com .
Brumesh is an innovative IP based mesh solution, a combination of routing software and hardware that creates a multi-hop mesh network in micro site WLANs that is easily deployed.
Brumesh is being developed by RafiqunWDSI, a 100% locally owned company that has brought together a combination of software, hardware and wireless based services that have been co-developed by RITS (Brunei) and WDSI Limited (UK). They have participated in several big projects in Brunei including setting up the country’s biggest ISP (VoIP), establishing a W@P gateway, providing e-government consultancy and implementations, as well as software development. MEXT-G is a mobile-centric service that aims to bring day-to-day services and information to anyone that owns a cellphone.
These products are both being developed by ExpansysTechnologies. Initially a content provider for mobile data services to the Brunei public, Expansys has now broadened its services to providing mobile communications software, hardware and customized server solutions. A series of iPhone applications, ranging from various sports to entertainment-based content, are currently being developed by Infindo Technology. Also being developed are games and applications for App Store, Symbian, Google, Android, Blackberry and Windows Mobile, as well as B2B mobile applications.
Infindo Technology is an IT Research and Development (R&D) company looking into innovative mobile and web technologies. Their current focus is on mobile PUSH data delivery platforms and mobile service deployment for the Apple iPhone, Google Android, Symbian, Windows Mobile and Blackberry mobile platforms.
